Exploring AI and Automation to Improve Services

The Digital Innovation Unit continues to explore the potential of AI and automation across NHS services, including governance models, use case development, and integration approaches. This work is helping shape future adoption of emerging technologies in a safe and sustainable way.

In Summer 2025 the DIU developed and introduced, within Midlands & Lancashire CSU, its Non-Corporate AI Governance Framework to ensure the CSU understood and managed the risks associated with the use of Non-Corporate AI by its staff. A key element of the management was the development of targeted AI training for staff who needed to undertake this training at the earliest opportunity.
