NHS England DWMP provider go-live marks major milestone for Digital Innovation Team
Tuesday, 13 October 2026
The NHS Digital Weight Management Programme (DWMP) supports adults living with obesity, diabetes and/or hypertension to manage their weight and improve their health through a 12-week online behavioural and lifestyle programme. The programme is specifically recognised in the NHS 10 Year Health Plan, which commits to expanding it to 125,000 more people each year and doubling access, reflecting its evidence for sustainable weight loss and value for money.
The Digital Innovation Unit (DIU) is celebrating the successful go-live of the new DWMP providers, following months of planning, preparation, testing and collaborative working across teams.
The go-live, which took place on 1 October 2026, represents a significant achievement for everyone involved and demonstrates the commitment, expertise and dedication of colleagues across the organisation and partner teams.
Delivering a change of this scale required extensive coordination, technical preparation and rigorous testing to ensure a seamless transition. Following the launch, teams worked quickly and effectively to address the inevitable post-implementation issues, ensuring services continued to operate smoothly and that normal activity levels were maintained.
Priyantha Jayawardane, Deputy Director of the Digital Innovation Unit, praised the team's efforts:
"A considerable amount of work has gone into preparing, testing and coordinating the changes, and I really appreciate the commitment everyone has shown to getting us to this point. Equally important has been the way the team responded to the inevitable teething issues following go-live, resolving them quickly and keeping things moving."
The achievement has also been recognised by NHS England colleagues, who expressed their appreciation for the commitment and hard work demonstrated throughout the programme.
Suzanne Clabby, Senior Policy Implementation Advisor from NHS England said:
"It's been a long time coming but to get to launch and be operating with normal activity this afternoon is an incredible achievement and impossible without your hard work and commitment."
Special recognition was given to Neil Davies (Solution Architect), David Goddin (Application Developer) and the wider team whose expertise, professionalism and collaborative approach helped ensure a successful implementation.
This achievement reflects the strength of partnership working between the Digital Innovation Unit, NHS England and provider organisations, demonstrating how digital innovation and teamwork can successfully deliver large-scale change across the NHS.
